You want someone who is trustworthy, has a strong background in successful budgeting, and is a leader who will put in the hard work to make Yamhill County stronger and more prosperous for all.
Staying engaged with cities by attending city council meetings. Advocating for funding for Yamhill County road projects, including the bypass and improvements along Hwy 18. Working to open county parks that were closed to the public. Supporting all things related to the Yamhill County Fair. To name a few of the more public-facing efforts.
Time! There are so many great opportunities to be part of different groups, committees, and boards, but never enough time to do it all.
Over the years, I’ve purchased goats from the Yamhill County Youth Livestock Auction and brought them home to help clean up pastures. Today, we have 16 “pardoned” Boer meat goats and 3 little Nigerian dwarf goats—a total of 19 goats! My wife thought I needed a shirt that said “Commish” after some friends started calling me that when I became Commissioner in 2022. When she came across a “Commish” shirt with a goat on it, she knew it was the perfect fit!
Apple rootstocks, cannabis, hazelnuts, wine grapes for vineyards, and pumpkins which are mostly donated to youth programs. Plus we have a retail greenhouse with hanging baskets and planters. We also occasionally grow corn and oats for crop rotation.
I have been fortunate over the years to attract and retain great employees and also partners in business. Some have been with me for over 20 years.
I know social media is a great way to quickly share a message with a lot of people, but the comment section isn’t the best place for real conversation. I’d much rather talk with people face-to-face which is why I make myself available to the public. When we sit down and talk in person, we usually find common ground that just doesn’t happen behind a keyboard.
It means that you are elected at large and not by a party afilliation. That doesn’t mean I can’t have a party affiliation which can help voters get a general sense of a candidate’s values and priorities. For me, that means being guided by conservative principles that focus on keeping our county financially strong and continuing to build on that success for the future.
